North American R&D operations established in Torrance, CA with Honda design and market research activities.

1986

Acura brand launched.

1991

Honda Accord Wagon debuts the first model developed by Honda R&D Americas and later exported to Japan and Europe.

1993

Ohio R&D Center opens and grows over the next two decades to become Honda’s 2nd largest R&D center in the world.

1995

Acura Design creates its
first concept car, the CL-X.

2001

All-new Acura MDX debuts and captures the Motor Trend SUV of the Year and North American Truck of the Year accolades.

2003

New Advanced Safety Research Facility opens in the Ohio Center.

2004

All-new Honda HRX™ mower debuts with pioneering Versamow™ System and begins perennial dominance as the industry’s top-rated walk-behind mower.

2006

Focusing exclusively on Acura design, a dedicated Acura Design Studio is constructed on the Los Angeles R&D Center campus.

2011

The 2011 Honda Odyssey is Honda's first minivan developed in North America.

2012

All-new Fourtrax Foreman ATV is launched and opens the door for Honda R&D Americas to become the global leader for ATV and Side-by-Side development.

2015

All-new 2016 Honda Civic debuts the first-ever global automobile model development led by Honda R&D Americas.
